Join our one day Japanese cookery class based on Atsuko’s new cookbook ‘Atsuko’s Japanese Kitchen’. With over 10 years of teaching experience, Atsuko takes you on a journey to the truth of Japanese cuisine.
This class is all about celebrating Japanese everyday cooking. You will learn how to prepare the very best home-cooked comfort food recipes from Atsuko’s cookbooks. You will also be introduced to the simple secrets of Japanese cuisine based on the magic “rule of 5”, how to plan and eat a meal the Japanese way and the essential ingredients and tools you will need to get started. Atsuko will give you plenty of cooking tips throughout the class to help you understand the concept behind Japanese food.
Designed as a full day interactive, fun and hands-on cooking class for 10 people. You will all cook together with Atsuko and enjoy tasting the fruits of your labour with a sit down meal in a fun, informal atmosphere.
Expect an intensive day as most of popular Japanese dishes will be covered in this class, however you will gain the confidence needed to cook a full Japanese meal to impress your friends and family!
- Dashi – making Japanese dashi stock from kombu and katsuobushi
- Sticky rice (premium white Japanese rice)
- Dashimaki tamago (juicy egg roll with daikon)
- Nikujaga (traditional Japanese beef and potato stew with shirataki noodles)
- Akadashi soup (red miso soup with seasonal vegetables)
- Wakame & cucumber salad with creamy sesame dressing
- Tori no lime teriyaki (chicken teriyaki with lime) with yuzu kosho
- Kushi katsu (deep fried crispy skewered panko coated ingredients)
- Chan chan yaki (salmon in miso garlic sauce)
- Goma ae (green beans with black/white sesame seeds sauce)

The class includes beverage throughout the day, a sit down meal and a signed cookbook “Atsuko’s Japanese Kitchen” to take home with you!

Q. I would like to book a class as a gift for someone – is this possible?
Yes, you can book either an individual space in a group session, or a private lesson. Please contact us for availability.
Q. If I wish to cancel my booking, how does it work ?
Bookings cancelled more than 14 days prior to the start of a course will be refunded. Alternatively you may transfer to another date free of charge. Bookings cancelled within 14 days of the start of a course are non-refundable and non-transferable, the only exception being if we are able to refill your place. If we are able to do so a full refund will be given, or you may transfer to another date. Refunds cannot be issued on any unattended classes without prior notice. Our Terms and Conditions.
Q. Do you have vegetarian dishes available?
Yes – When there is a mixed class, we will cook vegetarian dishes separately. Please advise us of your food preferences when you book the course. There are many vegan/vegetarian dishes that use soy product in place of meat or fish – this type of cooking is called Syojin Ryouri.
Q. I would like to arrange a special event for a group. Is this possible?
Yes – if you are planning for a surprise birthday party, team/corporate event, social occasion or celebration, we will bespoke your special cooking event! You can choose to hold your event at ‘The Grocery’ or in your own venue. Please contact us for pricing based on numbers.
