Okonomiyaki Class

Learn how to make Okonomiyaki (most popular Japanese street food, savoury addictive pancake with variety of toppings) from scratch and 2 more dishes!


This is a hands on, informal cooking class. You will learn how to make Kansai style Okonomiyaki from scratch, and also learn how to make homemade dashi stock and delicious pork and ginger miso soup!

Okonomiyaki is probably one the most loved street food in and outside Japan. This is based on the Kansai version mixing all the ingredients and not the Hiroshima version which layers them. As Okonomi refers to “to one’s liking” you choose your own toppings for the pancake: a bit like a Japanese-style pizza!

We start by introducing the ingredients, then have a cooking session, and finally we eat what we have made!


  • Okonomi yaki (Kansai style Japanese pancake with favourite toppings, such as seafood, pork, cheese with Japanese brown sauce and mayonnaise. Topped with dancing bonito flakes)
  • Dashi – making Japanese dashi stock from kombu and katsuobushi (bonito flakes)
  • Buta jiru (pork belly with variety of vegetables in a ginger miso soup (v) fried tofu for vegetarian)
