This event is all about celebrating delicious products from Japan and showcasing how whisky can be paired perfectly with some delicious food.

Atsuko’s Kitchen is extremely proud to be launching her brand new Whisky Tasting and Food Pairing evening, together with Nikka, Japan’s historic whisky company. Although it is seen here as almost controversial to be drinking whisky with your meal, in Japan, it is common practice and we’d like to prove you why and maybe convert you!

This event is all about celebrating delicious products from Japan and showcasing how whisky can be paired perfectly with some delicious food.

Stefanie Holt, the UK ambassador for Nikka, will lead you through an introduction to Japanese whisky and help you explore different styles and ways of drinking with a selection of award-winning whiskies. To pair your supper like a true Japanese, she will teach you how to make the perfect Mizuwari (“water” and “divide”) or highball. This quintessential drink makes a surprisingly light and delicate whisky drink perfect with Japanese food.

Expect an informal and interactive session where we will serve you 5 dishes which we’ll pair with 5 award-winning Nikka whiskies, curated by Stefanie Holt. This event is suitable for beginners and the most passionate japanophiles!

However, it is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18, and anyone who appears to be under the age of 25 may be asked to show ID before participating.

  • Smoked picked daikon, smoked cod roe with goats cheese on monaka cup
  • Oil cured oysters with Japanese herb
  • Tatami baby sardine with black garlic aioli dip
  • Cold smoked cured mackerel with apple chutney
  • Crab zosui risotto topped with salmon roe

About Nikka Whisky 

The Nikka Whisky Co was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who is widely acknowledged as the father of Japanese whisky. His time spent working at distilleries in Scotland and his marriage to Rita, his Scottish wife, ignited his passion for making the highest quality whisky. About Stefanie Holt

For spirits expert and whisky ambassador Stefanie Holt, it was a part-time job in a cocktail bar while studying Genetics that brought her into an industry where she could combine science, creativity and fun. Stef worked in some of Edinburgh’s top bars, impressing in cocktail competitions and winning numerous accolades, leading to her move to London and being appointed as bars manager at Soho’s Groucho Club. After spending 7 years being a Global Rum Ambassador, Stef joined Speciality Brands in 2015 as the ambassador for their enviable World whisky portfolio & rhapsodises about the golden nectar around the country. She has visited Japan numerous times and is proud to represent the Nikka distilling company in the UK.
